Dmitry Birichevsky, Director of the Department for Economic Cooperation of the Russian Foreign Ministry, expressed confidence that Moscow will protect Belarus and help it if the EU introduces economic sanctions against Minsk. Among other things, the diplomat pointed to the big miscalculation of the EU with Belarus and the incident with the plane.
Earlier it became known that the EU is almost ready for another package of sanctions against Belarus after the incident with the forced landing in Minsk. But it takes time to reconcile these restrictions. It is possible that by June 21, when a meeting of the Council of the EU Foreign Ministry is scheduled, these sanctions will be adopted.
The Russian Foreign Ministry is confident that Moscow will provide assistance and protection to Minsk in this case. In particular, this opinion was expressed by Dmitry Birichevsky, Director of the Department for Economic Cooperation of the Russian Foreign Ministry.
He noted that what the West had invented against Minsk “evokes absolutely negative emotions.” The diplomat drew attention to the big miscalculation of the EU with Belarus in this case.
In particular, he explained that first of all, it is necessary to conduct an investigation and find out the details of what happened. That is, as Moscow did in this case.
“First of all, we need to investigate what happened, and then think about how to react to it, and not make hasty statements,” Birichevsky said in an interview with RIA Novosti. He stressed that Moscow’s approach “is not to take impulsive measures.”
