The Department of Information and Press of the Russian Foreign Ministry commented on the desecration of the monument to Marshal of the Soviet Union Konstantin Rokossovsky in the Polish city of Legnica. The message was posted on the ministry's website.
“We are deeply outraged by the mockery of the memory of the outstanding Soviet military leader, twice Hero of the Soviet Union, Marshal of the Soviet Union K.K. Rokossovsky, - said in the Foreign Ministry. - The Polish authorities have not yet publicly expressed their attitude to this ugly incident. The President of the city of Legnica announced only that the police are looking for the guilty. "
The Russian Foreign Ministry also noted that another act of vandalism was committed on the territory of a military burial, although the Polish authorities have repeatedly assured that such objects are inviolable and should be protected.
“It is obvious that the desecration of monuments to Soviet soldiers-liberators, put on stream in Poland, is directly related to the atmosphere of hostility towards the USSR and Russia, fueled by the efforts of the authorities and leading media, the campaign to rewrite and falsify history in a Russophobic spirit, which has long become the core of Polish historical policy, ”the Russian Foreign Ministry also said.
The monument to Rokossovsky was stolen on the night of July 30 in Legnica in western Poland from the territory of the city cemetery, where Soviet soldiers who died in the battles for the liberation of this city in 1945 are buried. The next day, the police found a monument with a severed head.
Earlier today, the incident was commented on by the RF Ministry of Defense.
