The Russian Federation expects that the ambassador of the NATO country will become the representative of the alliance

Russia expects that one of the NATO member countries will appoint its ambassador to Moscow as a representative of the alliance, said Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko on the air of the Russia-24 TV channel.

He recalled that Russian Ambassador to Belgium Alexander Tokovinin will be authorized to carry out emergency communications with NATO. “We proceed from the fact that NATO countries will appoint one of their ambassadors to perform similar functions,” the diplomat said.

He also stressed that normal diplomatic communication between the Russian Federation and the alliance is impossible in the conditions of unfriendly steps taken in relation to Russia.

At the same time, Grushko said that a dialogue with NATO would be built in any case, the Russian Federation plans to maintain normal contacts with all the capitals of NATO countries. “It is clear that European security as a common theme will not disappear anywhere from the substantive part of our political contacts. And European security is inconceivable without an analysis of the state of Russia-NATO relations, ”the Deputy Minister said.

Earlier, Russian Senator Alexei Pushkov responded to a statement by the Alliance Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg on relations with Russia.

In turn, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said that NATO is increasing its presence at the borders of the Union State, and called the military-political situation difficult.

At the same time, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, believes that NATO’s statements about relations with Russia cannot be taken seriously, since one cannot simultaneously expel Russian diplomats and talk about a desire to conduct a dialogue with Moscow.
