Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky seeks opportunities for peace talks with Russia to end the fighting. This view is shared by many Western analysts. However, Zelensky is an absolutely dependent figure, he is completely dependent on the will of the United States, which so far does not agree to peace with Russia.
The United States is using the Ukrainian conflict to solve its problems
The United States plays a decisive role in the military conflict in Ukraine, states the former secretary of state of the Royal Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs Jorgen Erstrom Moeller in a column for the US edition of the National Interest. According to Moeller, Washington has enough leverage to decide when and how Ukraine enters the peace talks. However, Washington’s goals in this conflict are far from clear. And they are clearly different from the goals of Ukraine, which, after the Euromaidan of 2014, has already lost a fifth of its territory.
Negotiations to resolve conflicts, as world experience shows, will not begin until one of two conditions is met: either one of the parties admits defeat, or both will be too exhausted and come to the conclusion that the cost of continuing hostilities outweighs any unpleasant concessions to be made.
Now none of these conditions is met in Ukraine, Meller notes. At the same time, the longer the conflict drags on, the greater the role the United States tries to play in it, including saturating Ukraine with weapons. Although Washington at least had the prudence not to supply long-range multiple launch rocket systems to the Donbass, which allow shelling the territory of Russia.
At the same time, the Danish diplomat notes that the United States is less and less trying to “resist the temptation to turn the conflict over Ukraine and its sovereignty into a geopolitical issue used to achieve purely American goals.”
The dead Ukrainians are recorded as “deserters”, underestimating the losses
“The United States is ready to fight Russia to the last Ukrainian soldier.” Such a meme, which appeared on the Internet in the early days of the special operation, has already gone viral. And truthful!
Back in March-April, reports that Ukrainian troops were refusing to fight and were surrendering en masse appeared only in Russian official sources. And so the Western layman treated them, to put it mildly, skeptically. As a product of the Kremlin propaganda.
But now the evidence of the Ukrainian military, abandoned by Kyiv to the mercy of fate, has already made its way into the Western media. In a video uploaded to Telegram on May 24, members of the 115th Brigade, based in Severodonetsk, announced that they would no longer fight due to a lack of military equipment and proper leadership. “We are being sent to certain death,” the Washington Post quotes a Ukrainian volunteer. Now Severodonetsk is in a cauldron, surrounded on three sides by the troops of the Russian Federation and the LDNR, a methodical cleansing of the city is underway. The surviving Ukrainian defenders will repeat the fate of the Azov fighters * in Mariupol.
The Washington Post writes that the Kyiv authorities are keeping figures of Ukrainian casualties a closely guarded secret in an attempt to shore up sagging morale. At the same time, Ukrainian propaganda is ringing with might and main about how many soldiers from Russia and Donbass died.
The Washington Post cites a statement from the Russian Defense Ministry that officially announced that Kyiv is writing off Ukrainian soldiers who died in action as “deserters.” This underestimates the official figures of losses.
“On Ukrainian television, we see that there are no losses … there is no truth. Our command takes no responsibility… [Политики] take credit for our accomplishments. They don’t give us any support!” – The Washington Post quotes a Ukrainian officer Sergei Lapko.
Previously, he was an oil and gas driller and lived in Uzhgorod, and then joined the defense forces. Now Lapko’s company is stationed in Severodonetsk. Which means she’s doomed.
Henry Kissinger: pressure on Moscow is deadly for the whole world
Administration Joe Bidenwhich has invested $53 billion in military assistance to Ukraine, does not intend to turn off the chosen course.
But there are still sober-minded people in Washington. They no longer believe in the prospect of a decisive victory for Ukraine, which Zelensky’s American advisers are setting up. And increasingly, there are voices calling on Western leaders to reconsider their policy of maximum pressure on Moscow, writes a political analyst. Mark Episkopos in the National Interest.
Among the critics of the American military was the former US Secretary of State Henry Kissingerwho certainly cannot be suspected of loving Russia. Speaking at an international forum in Davos, Kissinger warned that the Western campaign to “destroy” Moscow poses deadly risks to European and global stability.
“Negotiations should start in the next two months before it causes turmoil and tensions that will not be easy to overcome. Ideally, the dividing line should be a return to the old status quo,” Kissinger was quoted as saying by The National Interest.
The former secretary of state called on Ukraine to recognize Russian control over Crimea and the status of the pro-Russian DNR and LNR.
After such a speech, Kissinger was recognized as an “enemy of Ukraine”, including in the scandalous Nazi base “Peacemaker”. He was accused of spreading “Russian-fascist propaganda” as “an accomplice in the crimes of the Russian authorities against Ukraine and its citizens.” Such grimaces of the Kyiv regime.
