The President of Kazakhstan replaced the Chairman of the National Security Committee

The head of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev, by his decree dismissed Karim Massimov from the post of chairman of the country’s National Security Committee.

The former head of the State Security Service Yermek Sagimbayev was appointed to this post, TASS reports.

Personnel reshuffles took place against the backdrop of massive anti-government protests by the population in most cities of the republic. During the riots, eight law enforcement officers were killed. A state of emergency was introduced throughout the country.

Tokayev turned to the CSTO partner countries for help. He believes that the introduction of the troops of the countries participating in the treaty in Kazakhstan will not be superfluous.

The politician called the organizers of the pogroms in Alma-Ata terrorists who seized large objects in the city, including planes.
