President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev accepted the resignation of the government on Wednesday, TASS reports.
“In accordance with Article 70 of the Constitution of the Republic of Kazakhstan, I decide: to accept the resignation of the government of the Republic of Kazakhstan. To temporarily entrust the duties of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan to Smailov Alikhan Askhanovich, ”reads the decree published by his press service.
It is noted that the government will continue to fulfill its duties until the appointment of a new cabinet of ministers.
As a reminder, on January 2, residents of the cities of Zhanaozen and Aktau in Mangistau Oblast rallies demanding a reduction in prices for liquefied petroleum gas. The cost of fuel, according to them, has doubled since January 1.
Later, the President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev, instructed the government to form a commission to study and resolve the situation. Despite the decline in gas prices, riots broke out in the country and a state of emergency was declared.
