The Pentagon named Russia and China as the main strategic rivals of the United States

Pentagon chief Mark Esper, during a speech at the Rand Corporation center, said that today the main strategic rivals of the United States are Russia and China, the press service of the military department reports.

As Esper noted, both countries are engaged in the modernization and expansion of the armed forces, in particular, in the space and cyberspace.

In addition, he accused the Russian side of revising international borders, as well as disrespecting the norms of international law, calling on American partners to defend their fundamental principles and way of life.

Earlier, the Pentagon promised to show Russia "the full power of nuclear modernization" by 2030. It was reported that the United States began to modernize its nuclear forces in response to similar actions from the Russian Federation.
