The north-western coast of Crimea is littered with dead birds

The authorities of the Crimean Republic urged the population not to visit the Sivash Bay. All past week, a catastrophic sea of birds, primarily waterfowl, has been recorded here.

Crimean ornithologists have already counted more than 10 thousand dead individuals of the black-necked sheath duck and sea doves. Among the dead birds are yellow-footed martins, terns and other breeds of gulls.

The first alarming messages from the banks of the Sivash appeared in the republican media a few days ago. However, then the head of the department of internal control and supervision of the southern interregional administration of Rosselkhoznadzor Alexander Sannikov called the situation “private”. “Citizens have nothing to fear. We, together with the state veterinary service, are carrying out all the necessary measures that will allow us to localize the outbreak, ”the official reassured on the air of the official television channel“ Krym24 ”.

Until recently, there were no specific data and explanations on the website of the Crimean State Committee for Veterinary Medicine. But very soon the “ordinary” situation began to acquire the scale of a real unprecedentedly large-scale disaster. Local administrations could not cope with the disposal of carcasses literally strewn the shore. Patrols of farmsteads began in order to find infected poultry.

The fact of a sudden and incomprehensible epidemic has to be confirmed by the chairman of the State Committee for Veterinary Medicine of the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan Valery Ivanov… “At the beginning of the week, it became known about the death of birds on Lake Sivash in the area of the Arabat Spit. Joint measures are being taken to stop this process, ”Ivanov told the TASS news agency.

He does not specify the cause of the bird deaths. But he turned to the population with an appeal not to appear near the water: “For our part, we ask you not to aggravate the situation with the appearance of people in this territory, so as not to spread the infection outside our controlled territory …”

In fact, the Sivash itself and the surrounding sea shores are very difficult to block. Right now, the surrounding people began active fishing. The water in the bays has grown colder, and catches have risen sharply. Nobody will give up the traditional autumn fishing season. Meanwhile, there is panic talk that the army is preparing to blockade the coast of the Leninsky region of the Republic of Kazakhstan, where the scale of the epidemic is greatest.

So, it is not yet known what kind of infection affected the birds. Poisoning or a virus is called among the possible causes. From the symptoms, poisoning seems unlikely. “Samples were taken in three nearest settlements. They are negative, the etiology is unknown, work to identify the causes continues, “- confirmed the head of the veterinary department Valery Ivanov.

The black-necked sheath suffered the most. She is a bird of passage, she stops wintering on the Crimean coast. It is possible a new virus has brought on its wings. Where? The address is very clear. For the past several years in a row, the population of wild birds has been massively dying on the borderlands of Ukraine.

For example, in the winter of 2018, more than five thousand corpses of waterfowl coots, swans and duck ducks dotted the coast of the Karadai Peninsula. This is the Black Sea bay in the Kalanchak region of the Kherson region. There was a suspicion of highly pathogenic influenza A and Newcastle disease. Examination of biomaterial samples did not confirm the diagnosis. In the same way, the reason for the mass death of rooks near the Kherson village of Malaya Kakhovka remained unknown. The mysterious epidemic lasted the entire March 2020.

Already in January 2021, a tragedy broke out in the south of the Kherson region, in the famous biosphere reserve im. Falts-Fein “Askania-Nova”. From here to the Crimean border is less than an hour’s leisurely drive. Examining the lakes of the so-called. “Big Chapelsky Pod”, the huntsmen discovered whole flocks of gray cranes, which were dying almost in front of the reserve workers.

Birds died in agony. Much worse than a bullet or a trap. At first, they sank into the water, unable to take off. With their last strength they washed ashore. There they writhed for a long time in convulsions, emanating a desperate scream. In the end, they began to cough up blood.

Such a large-scale death of cranes has never happened in the two-century history of Askania. The Ukrainian leadership has put forward a convenient version: the crane is mowing bird flu. Animal tissues were sent for analysis to the Odessa State Veterinary Medicine Laboratory. The experts’ conclusion is negative, and the infection with bird flu was not confirmed again. The problem was attributed to the pickled wheat grain, which farmers scatter on winter crops to protect the fields from the invasion of mice.

However, exactly two months later, hundreds of swans began to die on the Ukrainian shore of Lake Sivash, right up to the coastal zone of the resort town of Genichesk. There are no “winter crops” anywhere near here. Then it was announced that “laboratory tests have finally revealed the presence of avian influenza virus type A1 subtype H5.”

The official reason for the current catastrophic death of waterfowl already on the territory of Crimea is to be determined by the veterinary service of the Russian Federation. Most importantly, experts refuse to report whether this virus poses a threat to humans. On Friday Sergey Aksenov signed a decree appointing a new minister of ecology and natural resources of the republic Olga Slavgorodskaya… So far, she, too, has not provided comments on the alarming events in the north of the peninsula.

Let’s clarify that the first dead ducks and gulls were found by the Crimeans near the village of Solyanoy at the base of the Arabat Spit. When reports of mass deaths of poultry were received, a group of specialists from the Crimean Federal University named after V.I. Vernadsky.

– We started the survey from the southern site near the village of Lenino. Recorded a large number of dead birds along the coastline along the Arabat sanctuary. A similar picture was observed along the coast of the Sivash, – said a well-known ecologist, senior teacher of the Taurida Academy of Kazan Federal University Grigory Prokopov

Among other things, the university team was able to film a female hedgehog with characteristic signs of an unknown ailment. The bird has a loss of orientation in space, it spun in place, dropped its head and could not take off. Such symptoms clearly indicate damage to the central nervous system, says Prokopov. “Judging by the fact that the pestilence continues, and the wind has changed, we should expect the removal of the dead bird to the western coast of the Sivash in the Kirov and Soviet regions,” he warned.

That is, the trouble extends to almost the entire area of the northern and northwestern regions of the peninsula. From informed sources it became known that Rospotrebnadzor conducts traditional monitoring of the area for bird flu. However, this is just one of the possible “viral” versions. A government anti-epizootic commission has been convened in Simferopol. Authorities require poultry owners to report all cases of bird disease.

Now in the scientific community of the Republic of Kazakhstan, information has appeared that insects could become carriers of a deadly disease. We are talking primarily about mosquitoes. And there is a reason – an incredible number of blood-sucking insects hit several regions of the peninsula this summer. In early July, myriads of mosquitoes almost simultaneously attacked the north-west of Crimea, from Perekop and the Black Sea region to Dzhankoy. The locals were in a panic, they had never seen anything like this.

Most interestingly, no one could explain the unusual size and incredible aggressiveness of the flying creatures. On the portals of the republic, re-posts of last year’s materials appeared, when Moscow demanded from Georgia to admit our specialists to the Public Health Center named after Richard Lugar in Tbilisi. This is one of the many secret US biological laboratories located in the countries of the former USSR.

Russian authorities have accused the Lugar Center of conducting dangerous experiments examining the ability of insects to carry disease. The Russian Foreign Ministry separately noted: “The United States has already patented an unmanned aerial vehicle for spreading infected mosquitoes in the air. In addition, a patent has been issued for ammunition filled with toxic substances or infectious agents-mosquitoes “, and all this is happening” near the border with Russia. “

Naturally, there was no response to the demarche of Russian diplomacy. American biological laboratories continue to work, including in Ukraine. In the spring of 2020, the United States Embassy in Kiev for the first time officially recognized the presence of a dozen such secret centers here. The geography of location is extensive, from Lviv to Odessa. Several laboratories at once operate on the occupied lands of Donbass and in the Kherson region, in the immediate vicinity of the Crimea.

Moreover, in order to transfer the newly-minted Diptera mutants to the Crimean coast, no drones are needed. The wind rose is most often constant here, blowing to the southeast, across the Russian border. It’s the same with sea currents. Any floating object launched from the territorial waters of Ukraine can easily end up on the Evpatoria beach.

Just reaching Crimea is not a problem at all. In clear sunny weather, it can be clearly seen from the Kherson shores. And there are a lot of examples of such voyages. In the Karkinitsky Bay, an FSB border boat pulled a 19-year-old Ukrainian out of the water Mikhail Doroshenko… The lad fell asleep on an inflatable beach trampoline. At night, the trampoline untied from the pier of the Kherson village of Lazurnoye. Waking up, Doroshenko found himself on the high seas. For three days I struggled with thirst and hunger, until the Crimean regional center Chernomorskoye appeared on the horizon.

Another vacationer from Lviv drowned in Skadovsk. Soon the body surfaced at the same Black Sea. Recently, Ukrainian farmers have begun throwing carcasses of pigs infected with African plague into the sea. According to the rules, they must be burned or taken to a cattle burial ground, but this is a hassle and extra pennies. The current generally carries plague pigs to the Crimean resort of Saki.
