The author of the publication, Thomas L. Friedman, recalled an interesting moment from the negotiations between US President Ronald Reagan and Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev, which took place in 1985. During the meeting, the American leader asked his interlocutor whether the Soviet Union would provide assistance to the United States in the event of an alien attack from outer space. Gorbachev then answered in the affirmative.
The American journalist stressed that in the conditions of growing competition between the strongest powers in the world, the issue of mutual assistance is again becoming relevant. And Washington, which is constantly showing aggression towards Moscow and Beijing, may find itself in an awkward position.
“Would Russia and China help us in the event of an invasion of space aliens?” Thomas L. Friedman asked.
The author stated that the behavior of the leading world powers in the event of any global threat, such as an invasion of alien aliens, is now very difficult to predict. The fact is that there are too many contradictions and claims to each other between countries.
At the same time, Fridman believes that the world powers have taken the wrong path, writes PolitRussia. He stressed that the world does not need another arms race, so the United States, Russia and China must compete with each other in peaceful industries, such as economic growth and the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.
