The Ministry of Labor and Social Protection from 2021 will stop calculating the consumer basket if a bill on a new method for calculating the minimum wage (minimum wage) and the living wage is adopted, RBC writes.
The consumer basket is the minimum set of food products and non-food goods and services, the calculation of which was required to establish the value of the subsistence minimum. Now the method of calculating it has changed, so the need for a consumer basket has disappeared, the department explained. They also stressed that the calculation of the cost of the consumer basket is not a statistical observation.
Recall that a bill on a new methodology for calculating the minimum wage was submitted to the State Duma at the end of September. It is assumed to be 42% of the median salary. Thus, from 2021, the minimum wage will increase from 12,130 to 12,792 rubles, and the cost of living in annual terms will add 3.7% to 11,653 rubles.
As the head of the Ministry of Labor Anton Kotyakov noted, from 2021 the minimum wage will begin to grow faster than the cost of living.
