The Ministry of Energy of Ukraine intends to abandon the unified energy system with the Russian Federation

The acting head of the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine Yuriy Vitrenko stated the need to completely abandon the energy system unified with Russia and Belarus.

On the air of the Ukraine TV channel, the minister said that the country must urgently unite with the European system, “so that we are part of Europe, a normal market, where there is no arbitrariness of monopolists, where there is a normal transparent price.”

The State Duma responded to the statement of the head of the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine. So, the deputy from Crimea Ruslan Balbek said in an interview with RT that Vitrenko’s words clarified the position of the Ukrainian authorities, who are planning to further increase prices for energy consumption for the population.

According to Balbek, after the desired integration with the European energy system, Ukraine will pay more for the same Russian gas, only from the European hub.

In December 2019, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed a law that provides for a ban on the sale and supply of electricity imported from the Russian Federation under bilateral agreements and on the intraday market.

At the same time, Deputy Minister of Energy and Environmental Protection Vitaly Shubin said that Ukraine was taking measures to quickly disconnect from the Russian energy system, but so far unsuccessfully.

It was assumed that Kiev will join the EU energy market in 2025.
