The Marine Corps will have a special role in the course of the special operation

Today Russia celebrates the Day of the Navy, Vladimir Putin will arrive at the Main Naval Parade in St. Petersburg. The Russian Navy is playing its own special role, including during the ongoing special operation in Ukraine. The real heroes of the NMD were not only the sailors and their long-range weapons, but also the marines that were part of the Navy. What was its significance for the course of hostilities?

With the use of warships of the Russian Navy during the NWO, everything is generally clear and very visible. Small missile ships “Ingushetia”, “Grayvoron”, “Vyshny Volochek” have already fired, according to some estimates, almost 200 high-precision Caliber cruise missiles. The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation regularly reports about them in reports on the conduct of a special operation in Ukraine – all missiles fall right on target, saving civilian objects.

The Rostov-on-Don diesel-electric submarine, which has worked out the tactics of launching against militant targets in Syria, is also involved in the launches of Caliber. It is possible that other submarines, as well as frigates of the Black Sea Fleet, are also participating in the NWO.

This is quite understandable – from the Black Sea, the direct range of missiles is not only to Odessa, but also to Kyiv, Vinnitsa, Rovno and Lvov. They do not enter the zone of destruction of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which were supplied with Harpoon anti-ship missiles, they launch from a safe distance, like other Russian missile systems (the same Iskander complex).

However, the naval component of the special operation, which is also being carried out in the waters of the Black and Azov Seas, has shown that the marines of the Navy are also actively involved in the hostilities.

“Without going into the secrets of the General Staff, it can be assumed that during the special operation the use of the marines was planned in advance,” said military expert, reserve captain 1st rank Vasily Dandykin. – Sea landing on Mariupol, similar to Odessa – it was almost obvious, especially since large landing ships from the Northern and Baltic fleets had arrived in the Black Sea in advance. This idea had to be abandoned – the advance of Russian troops along with units of the People’s Militia of Donbass by land turned out to be more productive.

The Armed Forces of Ukraine were waiting for the Russian amphibious assault and preparing for it, having mined the coast and port waters. All Ukrainian weapons were aimed at the sea, but the Russian marines came by land. And she played a significant role in the liberation of not only Mariupol, but also other cities of Donbass. The Marines, although they have an affiliation with the fleet, which they are undoubtedly proud of, can also act as ordinary, but more trained infantry.

It is known that not only the marines of the Black Sea Fleet are involved in the course of the NMD – this is the 810th separate brigade, but also other units of the “black infantry”, which the Germans so nicknamed during the Great Patriotic War because of black vests, caps and pea coats . Marines of the Pacific Fleet from the 155th Separate Marine Brigade also played a special role during the special operation in Ukraine.

Their courage in combat operations during the NMD was marked by a presidential decree conferring the honorary title “Guards” on the unit.

With the wording – “for mass heroism and courage, fortitude and courage shown by personnel in combat operations to protect the Fatherland and state interests in armed conflicts.”

The assignment of the honorary title “Guards” to the 155th Separate Marine Brigade was preceded by the assignment of the title of Hero of Russia to Colonel Alexander Bernhard, who had previously served in this unit, and then served as deputy commander of the 810th Marine Brigade in Sevastopol. The marines under his personal command broke through the enemy’s defense in depth near Volnovakha – they bit into it without delay and the forward units of the marines were the first to reach the barracks of the main base of the Azov national battalion in Mariupol.

“In the course of hostilities, combined arms units – tankers, infantry, artillery, are of particular importance, but breakthrough actions are provided by special forces,” said military expert Vladislav Shurygin. “Their task is not a large-scale offensive or the ability to organize a defense in depth, but to “leak” behind enemy lines, start chaos there and paralyze the enemy’s actions until the main forces approach. No offense to our paratroopers, I can note that the Marine Corps units are also successfully coping with similar tasks, which are also highly mobile units capable of operating both during landings from the sea and on land.

One can recall the successful combat operations of the 61st Marine Brigade of the Northern Fleet during the two Chechen wars, when its fighters participated in the most significant operations and never lost a fight with the enemy. To the call of the militants: “Russians, surrender,” they answered with fire and counterattack. The Severomorians were also noted in a special operation in Ukraine, where they are now moving forward in the Kharkov direction.

“The use of the marines in the course of a special military operation is due precisely to their high preparedness and motivation to win,” said military expert, reserve colonel Vladimir Popov. – It is no coincidence that the motto of these troops sounds like: “Where we are, there is victory!”. And this is not bravado, but an understanding of one’s strength and training. In Ukraine, the Marines confirmed this rule in real combat conditions both in Melitopol, on the island of Zmeiny, which was successfully liberated, and in other territories of Ukraine remote from the sea, where Marines take part.

I can assume that it is the specific nature of the Marine Corps, with the landing on the coast, that may still come in handy during the special operation.

Perhaps it will be the coastline near Odessa, the mouth of the Dnieper or the Danube, because in addition to participating in hostilities on land, part of the marines are on alert on landing ships in the Black Sea.

Formations and units of the Marine Corps are part of all fleets and flotillas of the Russian Navy. They include the 336th brigade as part of the Baltic Fleet, the 61st as part of the Northern Fleet, the 810th as part of the Black Sea Fleet, the 40th and 155th brigades are part of the Pacific Fleet, the Caspian flotilla has the 177th regiment marines.

The number of “black berets” is about 35 thousand people, and there are even tanks in service, so various military specialists are in demand here. Once in the Marine Corps, officers cease to consider themselves “land soldiers” and are proud of belonging precisely to their kind of troops, the peculiarity of which is emphasized, among other things, by uniforms, insignia and, of course, a special flag that shows their connection with the fleet.
