It would seem to be a standard event in the life of a political organization. However, not when it comes to the Limonovites. Here you need to make the necessary excursion into the jungle of jurisprudence. Back in February, an organizing committee was registered with the Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation for holding the constituent congress “The Other Russia E.V. Limonov ”scheduled for April. The overall goal is clear – registration and nomination of a party for elections to the State Duma.

The original convention was to take place on April 24th. Saturday is the perfect time for party events – delegates come to Moscow for the weekend without any problems. The organizing committee rented a hall in the congress center of the hotel in Izmailovo. Russian law regulates the mandatory publication of a notice of the founding congress of a party in the all-Russian press at least a month before the event, and the corresponding announcement was published in Rossiyskaya Gazeta.

Suddenly, in the second half of March, the hotel staff called the organizing committee and informed that on April 24, a comprehensive check of fire-prevention systems was planned at the congress center, suggesting that the congress be postponed to the next day. The hotel in Izmailovo is the most famous place for all party events; the Limonovites have rented premises there many times.

But such a letter came for the first time. The party leadership had suspicions that they were trying to disrupt the congress. Nevertheless, the organizing committee agreed to postpone the date. The party members rushed to the “Rossiyskaya Gazeta” with a new announcement. The legal deadline – at least a month before the date of the event – was met.

The organizers routinely prepared the congress, gathering representatives of the regionals to Moscow. However, in ten days a new challenge followed. The administration of the hotel complex reported that there was a malfunction in the work of the same fire extinguishing system. In this connection, holding the congress on the new date of April 25 is not possible.

No one had any doubts about the truth of their intentions. All week before the congress, party activists inspected the congress center, the fire system of which was working properly. And all other meetings were held without problems, right up to the tattoo lovers’ meeting.

As history has shown, bans on Limonovites work badly. In my time Eduard Limonov in a similar situation, in 2004, urbi et orbi declared that the congress, if necessary, would be held even under bullets. Limonov’s Other Russia followed the behests of Eduard Veniaminovich and said that party activists would come anyway.

At 11 o’clock in the morning on Sunday at the metro station “Partizanskaya” gathered the organizers of the congress “Other Russia Limonov”. Accompanied by the press, we went to the hotel, all wearing masks – to avoid “anti-pandemic” claims. As you’d expect, no fire checks at the congress center. At the entrance to the hotel, only one paddy wagon was on duty, where, even with a complete ramming, the delegates of the congress could not fit in any way. In connection with the still possible visit of the police, all voting was carried out in a sprint manner. The law was executed, the party was established according to all the necessary formalities in less than an hour.

“They decided not to mess with us,” the old residents joked in the foyer. – “It is much easier to let us hold a congress than to meet on this day actions throughout the city.”

After the congress, representatives of forty-six regional organizations went to the Troekurovskoye cemetery, to the grave of Eduard Limonov: “We insisted on our own, Grandfather would approve.”
