During the telephone conversations, the US President suggested that the PRC President meet in person to discuss relations between the countries. Xi Jinping refused harshly and suggested that Joe Biden change his rhetoric.
Head of State Joe Biden received a telephone refusal from Chinese leader Xi Jinping. The American President proposed to hold a joint summit. But the head of the PRC put his interlocutor to shame by offering to “soften the rhetoric” in relation to his country. This is reported by the Financial Times, citing its own sources.
Recently, the leaders of the two states spoke by phone. The negotiations lasted about 1.5 hours. According to the newspaper, the US president offered to meet in person in order to “find a way out of the impasse in US-China relations.” But Xi Jinping said no. He called on Joe Biden to soften his tone towards the PRC.
The publication writes that after this conversation in Washington, they came to the conclusion: the Chinese authorities continue to play a tough game with the United States.
Officially, the White House has not yet commented on the information about Xi Jinping’s refusal.
