Peskov listed the real reasons for the crisis on the European energy market

Only non-professionals can claim Russia’s involvement in the gas crisis in Europe. This was stated by the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov on Wednesday, October 6.

“There is no role for Russia in what is happening on the European gas market, and there cannot be,”

– Peskov emphasized. He explained that Gazprom fulfills all obligations under the contracts and even exceeds them.

The reason for the crisis is that the Europeans themselves did not take care of filling their gas storages in time against the backdrop of the economy recovering from the pandemic. In addition, the EU countries rely too much on renewable energy sources – and miscalculated, since due to calm winds this year, wind generation has significantly decreased.

There are other reasons, but Russia has nothing to do with them, Peskov emphasized. The recording is published by Duma TV.

At the same time, the Kremlin noted that Russia is ready to talk with all partners about new long-term contracts. But for comments on this matter it is better to contact Gazprom directly, Interfax reports.

On the morning of Wednesday, October 6, the price of gas on the spot market in Europe reached a record $ 1,900 per cubic meter. Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, commenting on the situation, said that his country does not experience such problems, but blamed the crisis on the European Commission, which makes rash decisions.
