The authorities of Bashkiria have suspended the introduction of covid passports, RIA Novosti reports. The press service of the head of the republic explained that the launch of the project was postponed to a later date. Covid passports will not be introduced until at least 25% of the adult population is vaccinated against coronavirus in the republic.
Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova during a meeting of the President of Russia with members of the government on Thursday announced the harmfulness and inexpediency of introducing “vaccination passports”. According to her, such decisions irritate citizens and form their opinion about the compulsory vaccination, which is unacceptable.
Earlier, the head of Bashkiria, Radiy Khabirov, said that covid passports are being introduced in the region, which will be issued to residents with antibodies to coronavirus. It was emphasized that holders of such credentials would not be subject to many of the high alert restrictions. Also, their owners will be able to receive discounts on holidays in Bashkir sanatoriums, on the purchase of subscriptions to swimming pools and fitness centers, as well as tickets to the theater.
Meanwhile, this idea has caused a public outcry. Khabirov also noted that people were frightened by the word “passport” and said that the document could be called “certificate”.
Recall that lawyer Konstantin Kaminsky called the idea of introducing covid passports dubious.
The head of the Human Rights Council under the President of the Russian Federation (HRC) Valery Fadeev, in turn, considered such an initiative to be discrimination.
