The government of Moldova is against direct negotiations with Transnistria

Negotiations on the Transnistrian problem began to slow down against the background of Moldova’s 2019 election campaigns, and in 2020 and 2021 the parties failed to achieve a single round of negotiations in the “5 + 2” format. The Transnistrian authorities accused Moldova of pressure and non-compliance with the agreements. In response, they suspended a number of agreements, the newspaper recalls. After her election as president, Maia Sandu made a number of harsh statements about Tiraspol last year and stated that she did not intend to meet with the Transnistrian leader, as her predecessors did.
