The fourth wave is at its peak: a “mini-lockdown” has been announced in Russia with the prospect of continuation

“Now it is especially important to bring down the peak of the new wave of the epidemic,” the president said and urged the regions, if necessary, to introduce them already from October 23 and increase the rate of vaccination.

Putin recommended that Russians get vaccinated more actively, mentioning that now there are only two ways to get through a difficult period: get sick or get vaccinated. He also supported the proposal of Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova to provide two days off after vaccination for working Russians.

Earlier, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin announced the introduction of a home regime for citizens over 60 years old and people with chronic diseases until February 25, 2022. Employers are required to transfer at least 30% of staff and all workers from risk groups to teleworking.

Over the past day, 34,073 new cases of COVID-19 were detected in Russia, 1,028 people died – this is another anti-record in our country. Cases of the disease among children, including infants, have become more frequent – so, in the Orenburg region, the coronavirus was detected in three newborns, two of them are on a ventilator.

On the eve of the independent demographer and former employee of Rosstat, Alexei Raksha wrote that in connection with the coronavirus, the accumulated excess mortality in Russia exceeded 800 thousand people. The expert obtained this data by analyzing the data of Rosstat and the Unified State Register of Civil Status Acts (USR ZAGS).
