The former head of the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine announced the danger of turning on nuclear power units

Former Minister of Energy of Ukraine Yuriy Boyko said that the operation of all power units of Ukrainian nuclear power plants this season could threaten the reliability of the country’s energy supply, TASS reports.

“For the first time in the history of Ukraine, 14 or 15 of all power units that exist in the country are working in winter. This has never happened. As a rule, 12 worked, and three were constantly under repair, which is normal, because nuclear units must be taken out for repairs on time,” he said.

Recall that there are four nuclear power plants in Ukraine – Zaporozhye, Rivne, South-Ukrainian and Khmelnitsky, on which 15 power units are installed.

Earlier in Kiev, they said that Ukraine has enough nuclear fuel for the current heating season.

Minister of Energy of Ukraine Herman Galushchenko noted that there are half of the nuclear units that run on Russian fuel. According to him, the fuel reserve makes it possible to calmly spend the heating season. Galushchenko said that fuel reserves exceed 100% of the needs of Ukrainian nuclear power plants. In the current heating season, in the context of a constant increase in hydrocarbon prices, Ukraine is relying on nuclear generation.
