The former head of Dagestan, Vladimir Vasiliev, was elected as interim deputy secretary of the General Council of United Russia. This was announced on October 13 by the secretary of the general council of the party Andrei Turchak.
“By the decision of the Presidium of the General Council, Vladimir Abdualievich Vasiliev is elected to the post of Acting Deputy Secretary of the General Council of the party. We congratulate you, ”he said at a meeting of the General Council Presidium.
Turchak noted that Vasiliev was elected unanimously. Its main task will be the formation of lists of party candidates for elections to the State Duma of the next convocation. Turchak expressed confidence that the "indisputable authority" will allow Vasiliev "balanced and fair" approach to this work.
On September 29, it was reported that Vasiliev may soon leave the post of head of Dagestan due to health problems. The government of Dagestan later denied rumors about Vasilyev's resignation, but no official comments on this topic were made then. However, on October 5, Russian President Vladimir Putin appointed Sergei Melikov as acting head of Dagestan.
