The supply of weapons by Western states to Ukraine will not contribute to the settlement, but may lead to provocations in Donbass, Deputy Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation Andrei Rudenko told RIA Novosti.
The day before, the Times newspaper, citing a Ukrainian source, said that London was negotiating with Kiev on the sale of weapons, in particular, ground-to-ground missiles and missiles for military aircraft.
In addition, in August, the Pentagon announced that American leader Joe Biden had approved a new $ 60 million military aid package for the Ukrainian side.
The deputy head of the Russian Foreign Ministry stressed that military supplies to Kiev will not help resolve the conflict in southeastern Ukraine. On the contrary, this could lead to the fact that the Ukrainian authorities will take provocative actions against the self-proclaimed republics.
Rudenko stressed that a settlement in Donbass is possible only through “enlightening pressure” on Kiev, so that the country will return to the implementation of the Minsk agreements.
After the coup in Kiev in February 2014, the DPR and LPR declared their independence, after which the Ukrainian authorities launched a military operation against them. In the summer of 2020, additional measures to monitor compliance with the ceasefire came into force in Donbas.
Earlier, AiF.ru told why the negotiations on the Donbass reached a dead end.
