The first units from the main forces of the Russian contingent of the CSTO peacekeeping forces arrived in Kazakhstan. This was reported by the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation.
According to the ministry, as part of the CSTO forces, units of the 45th separate brigade of the special forces of the Russian Airborne Forces, Ivanovo and Ulyanovsk formations of the Airborne Forces were sent to Kazakhstan.
Recall that against the background of protests in Kazakhstan, the President of the republic, Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev, asked for help from the CSTO partners. On the morning of January 6, the advanced units of the CSTO contingent began to fulfill their tasks in the country.
Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council Konstantin Kosachev noted that the CSTO peacekeeping operation in Kazakhstan is legitimate from the point of view of both the domestic legislation of the partner countries and international law.
