During the meeting, the International Committee of the Federation Council recommended the chamber to ratify the law on the extension of the START Treaty, RIA Novosti writes.
Earlier, the head of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin submitted for ratification to the State Duma an agreement between the Russian Federation and the United States on the extension of the Treaty on the Reduction of Strategic Offensive Arms (START). The document must be renewed for five years. It is assumed that the law will come into force on the day of its official publication.
We will remind, the presidents of Russia and the United States, Vladimir Putin and Joseph Biden previously held a telephone conversation, during which they agreed to extend the START Treaty. In turn, Senator Sergei Tsekov announced that the Federation Council is ready to consider the extension of the START Treaty at a meeting on January 27.
