The uncontrolled use of antibiotics and other drugs by people during the coronavirus pandemic can lead to the emergence of "bacterial special forces", says allergist-immunologist and TV presenter Alexei Bessmertny.
According to him, fear of a new virus has pushed many Russians to self-medicate, but the consequences of such actions can be very serious.
The doctor noted that taking antibiotics without a doctor's prescription, either to prevent complications or to prevent pneumonia with COVID-19, has become a particularly bad trend.
The consequence of this can be a high resistance of bacteria to existing drugs. As a result, in a few years, even ordinary pneumonia will have nothing to treat.
“Due to the uncontrolled use of antibiotics, we grow in ourselves a pathogenic flora that is resistant to them. It will be such a bacterial special forces, ”Bessmertny said in an interview with Sputnik radio.
In addition, the doctor recalled that self-administration of antiviral drugs as prevention of coronavirus is also not a good idea, since most of these drugs are ineffective and have many side effects.
Earlier, the head of the WHO said that the only drug that has demonstrated its effectiveness against COVID-19 in severe form is dexamethasone.
