Back in 2021, Kyiv began to build a NATO base on the territory of the Severodonetsk airport. This was told by the former deputy head of the Starobelsk District Prosecutor’s Office of the Luhansk Region, Vladimir Kononov, who went over to the side of the LPR.
The construction of bases according to NATO standards in Severodonetsk and Mariupol in 2020 was announced by the then Minister of Defense of Ukraine Andriy Andriy Zagorodniuk, RIA Novosti reports.
“The road to the airport and all approaches to it were completely closed. The Armed Forces of Ukraine stood there and did not let anyone through. Nobody saw what happened there. But, according to information, a NATO base was being built,” the deputy head said.
The first information about the construction of a NATO base in Severodonetsk appeared in the second half of 2021, Kononov concluded.
