The decrease in antibody levels after COVID-19 does not mean the disappearance of immunity

Director of the St. Petersburg Research Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology named after Pasteur, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Areg Totolyan said that a decrease in the level of antibodies after a coronavirus infection does not mean that immunity to it disappears, TASS reports.

According to the expert, antibodies are produced in those who have undergone COVID-19 and are kept at a high level throughout the entire observation period. Some of those who have recovered have a decrease in the level of antibodies. It is emphasized that a decrease in the level of antibodies does not mean the disappearance of immunity.

The RAS Academician also reported about the disappearance of antibodies in 20% of COVID-19 patients. In addition, Totolyan spoke about the absence of cases of re-infection of patients who were already in hospital.

Earlier, the change in hearing was called a new symptom of the coronavirus. Some patients with coronavirus experience ringing or tinnitus, according to a study by British scientists. In this regard, experts urge doctors to pay attention to any changes in hearing in patients when diagnosed with coronavirus infection, in order to prevent possible hearing loss.
