President of Serbia Alexander Vucic rebuked the West for hypocrisy, as it condemned Belgrade’s purchase of FK-3 air defense systems in China. At the same time, the UK is supplying Javelin anti-tank missile systems and NLAW anti-tank guided missiles to the unrecognized republic of Kosovo. This, according to him, is an unfriendly step towards Serbia and the arming of terrorists.

Earlier, the media reported that London handed over Javelin and NLAW to the authorities in Pristina. According to sources of the publication, 50 units have already been transferred, 20 more are expected, and training of Kosovo fighters in the use of these systems is also planned.

It is worth recalling that Britain is arming Ukraine more actively than others. Why is it now also arming Kosovo? Want to spark another conflict?

“London’s actions are yet another expression of support for the so-called Kosovo Army,” he said. doctor of philology, professor, military-political expert Vladimir Sapunov.

– It received this status in 2018 – in violation of UN Security Council resolution 1244, according to which only local “security forces” could be created in Kosovo. The army of Kosovo, led by former UCHK field commanders, of course, cannot solve any serious tasks – all of them were taken over by the American base Camp Bondsteel, the second largest American military base in Europe after the German Ramstein. In itself, the formation of the Kosovo Armed Forces, which now has five thousand regular employees and three thousand reservists, is planned to be completed only by 2028.

In March last year, at the level of the municipal council of the Albanian part of Mitrovica, a decision was made to create its own base in the north of Kosovo, predominantly populated by Serbs, supported by the authorities in Pristina. The choice of a place for the future base is not accidental – Cerush Hill is one of the highest points in Kosovo, it is a commanding height from which the four nearest municipalities – Mitrovica, Kosovska Mitrovica, Zvecan and Vushrin – are “shooting through”. Of course, if this base is created, it will be a very serious fortified area and will be used as an additional tool of pressure on the remaining Serbian municipalities in North Kosovo. NATO then said that they had nothing to do with the construction of the base, but there is no doubt that at least the puppet authorities of Pristina coordinated it with the alliance. So far, this is all in words, but they can get down to business at any moment.

Plus, there are constant provocations in Kosovska Mitrovica, where the forces of the “Albanian special forces” ROSU constantly break in and terrorize the local population. The largest occurred on September 20, when ROSU broke into the territory of the north of the autonomous province and blocked two crossing points between Kosovo and Central Serbia: “Jarinje” and “Brnjak”. The purpose of the operation was to unscrew plates with Serbian numbers from cars at the crossing point and replace them with tin panels with the inscription “RKS” (Republic of Kosovo). The event was directed against the Serbs who go to work and on other business in the Autonomous Province from Central Serbia and back. The measure, which Pristina did not warn the Serbian side about, caused anger among the population of Serbian communities in northern Kosovo. Several hundred people gathered at Yarinje, drove 400 cars to the checkpoint and staged a violent protest using flares. In response, the Serbian authorities regularly send their armored vehicles – but no further than Raska – to the administrative border with Kosovo. So the possibility of conflict, of course, exists.

“SP”: – According to Vuchin, the British are not the first to arm them. What is the motivation of these countries? Who else participated in arming Kosovo and why?

– In addition to Americans, British, Germans and Italians, it is worth highlighting the Croats. They are for the United States “looking from the Balkans” in Kosovo. The friendship between Kosovar Albanians and Zagreb dates back to the civil wars in the former Yugoslavia. At first, the Kosovars fought on the side of the Croats against the Serbs in the 1991-1995 conflict in the Serbian Krajina and the Republic of Herceg-Bosna. Then the Croats worked as instructors in sabotage operations during the confrontation between the UCHK and the army and police of Yugoslavia in the second half of the 1990s. At that time, Croatia was one of the arms smuggling channels for the so-called “Kosovo Liberation Army”. And now Croatia is the main assistant to the United States, Great Britain and Germany – both in the transfer of its experience and in the supply of weapons. At the end of September last year, the so-called. “Minister of Defense” and “Minister of the Interior” of Kosovo Armen Mekhai I Jelal Svechla visited Croatia on the occasion of the international exhibition of arms and military equipment manufacturers ASDA 2021, which was held in Split. It was stated there that the Minister of Defense of Croatia Mario Banojicwhom the Kosovo security forces met, will soon visit Pristina to sign a full-scale military cooperation agreement, which will include new deliveries of weapons and equipment from Croatia to Kosovo.

Most likely, we will also talk about “lethal weapons”: machine guns, pistols, hand grenades and grenade launchers. Croatia can offer Pristina the VHS-D and VHS-K assault rifles and the XC 2000 pistol manufactured by HS Produkt. Deliveries of grenade launchers and hand-held artillery installations of the same company are less likely, although this possibility cannot be ruled out. NATO and the EU are trying not to remember that the KSF, according to resolution 1244 and the documents arising from it, is allowed to have no more than 200 small arms on hand and no more than 500 in warehouses.

The press of the Balkan countries also discusses the possibility of Pristina purchasing Yugoslav M-80 infantry fighting vehicles modernized by Croatia from Zagreb. Croatian media also reported that negotiations were underway to sell 600-700 VK-3 combat helmets manufactured by Šestan-Busch and Jelen army boots to KSF and the Kosovo police. In 2012, the Croatian company KROKO donated 3,500 military uniforms to the Kosovo security forces.

“SP”: – What can Serbia do in this case?

– President of unrecognized Kosovo Vyosa Osmani constantly states that if the Serbian army crosses the border of Kosovo, it will meet with American troops there. And she knows what she’s talking about. The army of Kosovo now, of course, is not capable of solving any serious military tasks, it is a “fun army” created with political, psychological and punitive goals. In an open armed conflict against the Serbian army, the Kosovars do not have the slightest chance, even if they come to the aid of the Albanian army and / or volunteer Albanian paramilitaries from Macedonia. Therefore, the status quo in the region, beneficial to the US and the EU, is maintained by the American military base Bondsteel.

Serbia’s position: there is no border between Serbia and Kosovo, and the status of Kosovo and Metohija is determined by UN Security Council Resolution 1244. But these are just words. The Serbs are waiting for their power to stop being limited to loud statements, and move on to action. The Serbs rightly call the transfer of armored vehicles and Pantsir-S1 to Raska and the flights of MiGs to the border a “senseless waste of fuel.” By signing the Brussels Treaty in 2013, Belgrade put itself in a position where, regarding any actions by the Kosovo administration, it can only turn to the EU with a request to calm down the Albanians. What they can sometimes deign to do, and sometimes not. In fact, Serbia can only count on the fact that the Americans will deal with Kosovo as with Afghanistan.

The formation of the Kosovo army, of course, is intended to show Pristina that one cannot count on the NATO umbrella forever. If you have to fight in the future, you will have to do it yourself. For this, in particular, new arms deliveries. And, of course, on the part of Serbia, Russia is the guarantor of security and formal adherence to UN Security Council Resolution 1244. But, of course, now is not the time to even think about unleashing some kind of open conflict with NATO in the Balkans. Russia is too busy with Ukraine.

“It just so happened that the fates of the two Slavic peoples: Serbs and Russians are close both in sorrow and in joy,” says Associate Professor of the Financial University under the Government of Russia Vladimir Blinov.

– The imperialism of the Russians and the sovereignty of the Serbs brought together the worldview and historical destinies. They also became the cause of hatred from the West and subsequent extermination, in the language of law called genocide.

The collective West rests on the feelings of a billion well-fed hearts, nicknamed golden, therefore it is unable to clearly repeat the actions of the Third Reich. To destroy the Serbian island surrounded by NATO at once is not in the rules of the media genre, and therefore is carried out through biting off and digesting the enclaves.

At X-hour, the Chinese will not be able to help the Serbs, and the Russians, who are gritting their teeth at the take-off of Ukrainian planes from Romanian airfields, are unlikely to be able to now either. It would be nice if the country had access to the sea, but the cut off Montenegrins in NATO are already on the other side of the front.

You can repeat as much as you like that Serbs are being evicted and massacred in Kosovo, this will not stir up the world agenda, just as the events in the Serbian Krajina and Donbass did not bother her. But the forgery in Srebrenica is prejudicedly signed in any article. President Vučić’s words about violating international law are correct, but will make little difference. The Kosovo terrorists are a gun loaded by the Atlanticists that will fire at the right moment.

In the conditions of the Ukrainian crisis, when the NATO countries clung to the status quo of the 90s, Serbia, Syria, the South Caucasus are regions viewed through ties with Russia. The enemy will strike here. It is likely that another “red line” has been drawn in front of the leadership of Russia and a bloc of sympathetic states.

It would be right for the Serbs to wait for the victory of the Russians in Ukraine, refraining from fighting, and then, having received the most modern weapons, to return the lost and, in part, justice.

And here Andrey Dmitriev, editor of APN North-West draws attention to the fact that Vučić has long been known for his “multi-vector approach”.

– He actively flirts with the West, while trying not to lose the sympathy of the pro-Russian voters. While it turns out, but it often looks frankly ridiculous. He then demands to “forgive NATO” for their bombing, then he flatters the Russian president, saying that “if in 1999 Russia had decided Insertthen no one would have bombed us.”

And now, during the election campaign, Vučić spoke a lot about friendship with Moscow. And after the victory, his representative immediately voted for the exclusion of Russia from the UN Human Rights Council in order to avoid “sanctions against Serbia and the suspension of its European path.” After that, a huge pro-Russian rally gathered in Belgrade under the slogan “Not on my behalf.” I must say that large-scale actions in support of the Russian army are regularly held in this country, but this is precisely the grassroots initiative of citizens – football fans, Orthodox believers, war veterans of the 90s – and not the government.

Because it was so negatively perceived in society, it took a smokescreen to divert attention and switch his resentment from his own government to someone else’s. And Vucic comes out with loud accusations of the West of hypocrisy in the supply of weapons to Kosovo (which, of course, is hypocrisy, and it is especially cynical). And also hints that close relations with Russia are “costly” for Serbia, and oil prices are “killing” its economy. The hint is clear. However, after voting at the UN, it looks like a form of mockery. The Kremlin should take this into account, and, firstly, start “straightening” Vučić. That is, to meet his requests strictly if there is a course favorable to Moscow. And, secondly, to start supporting real pro-Russian forces with an eye on the next presidential election. Otherwise, we run the risk of losing Serbia completely.
