The Bad Eating Habit That Seriously Damages Your Heart

If you think that dieting can make you healthier, then this is not always the case. Some people in an effort to lose weight fall into a vicious circle, then dropping, then gaining weight. It’s called the yo-yo diet, and it can do a lot of damage to your heart. Eatthis writes about it.

What is yo-yo diet

The yo-yo diet, also known as “weight cycling”, describes a pattern of losing weight, regaining it, and then repeating the diet. This is the process that causes the weight to rise and fall like the once-popular yo-yo.

80% of people regain their lost weight

When it comes to people who have lost a lot of weight, Scientific American studies have shown that 80% of them begin to gain weight again within a year.

The American Physiological Society proves that the yo-yo diet can seriously damage your heart.

Why is it bad when the weight jumps

“The body is very flexible and tends to adapt, but if it’s a chronic situation, some organs may lose their ability to adapt,” says Aline de Souza, one of the study’s authors.

Diet and weight fluctuations put a lot of stress on the body, so high levels of the stress hormone called cortisol are produced.

High levels of cortisol can cause inflammation in the body and lead to a higher risk of cardiometabolic disease.
