The transfer of Portuguese striker Cristiano Ronaldo to Manchester United has provided the club with record sales of jerseys bearing the forward’s name. It is reported by Inside Sport.
Sales of jersey with Ronaldo were the fastest in the history of the English Premier League (Premier League). In the first 12 hours after the Portuguese moved to United, fans bought jerseys worth nearly 40 million euros.
Tens of millions of euros have brought sales of almost 300 thousand T-shirts. Then the pace of sales slowed down. At the same time, record figures will not allow the “red devils” to rely on the fact that the income from the T-shirts will make it possible to recoup the forward’s transfer. According to the contract with Adidas, the club gets only ten percent of the sales of jerseys.
The 36-year-old striker returned to Manchester United on 27 August. Also, Manchester City claimed Ronaldo.
The Portuguese defended the colors of the Red Devils from 2003 to 2009. With United, he won the Premier League championship three times and won the Champions League Cup. After leaving England, Ronaldo played in Spain for Real Madrid, and then moved to the Italian championship, where he played for Juventus.
