Stoltenberg: NATO recognizes the complexity of relations with Russia

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that the North Atlantic Alliance is aware of the complexity of relations with Russia, and therefore will continue to strive to improve them.

According to him, when the tension rises, it is very important to continue the dialogue. He clarified that the alliance is still in favor of a dialogue with Moscow within the framework of the Russia-NATO Council.

He also said that the proposal to convene a meeting of the Council remains in force, the alliance is waiting for Moscow’s reaction, RIA Novosti reports.

The Secretary General’s statements were made on the eve of the meeting of the North Atlantic Council at the level of defense ministers. It will take place in Brussels from 21 to 22 October.

Russia from November 1 will suspend the work of its mission to NATO. The decision was made after the alliance revoked the accreditation of eight staff members of the permanent mission.

Meanwhile, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said that NATO is strengthening the military infrastructure near the borders of Belarus.
