NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg reported on his Twitter page about a conversation with Polish President Andrzej Duda on the situation on the border between Poland and Belarus.
He expressed the solidarity of the alliance with the Polish side. According to Stoltenberg, Minsk’s use of migrants as a hybrid tactic is unacceptable.
We will remind, on the evening of Monday, November 8, the border committee of Belarus announced that more than two thousand refugees from the countries of East and Africa went to the border of Poland. The department clarified that the situation at the border was quite tense. Polish border guards refused to let the migrants pass. Some refugees began to break down the barriers. Because of what is happening, Poland closed the Kuznitsa checkpoint, and the Lithuanian authorities introduced a state of emergency in the areas bordering with Belarus.
Lithuania, Latvia and Poland accused Minsk of creating a migration crisis. At the same time, Belarus denies all charges. The head of state, Alexander Lukashenko, said that Minsk would not restrain the flow of illegal immigrants heading to the EU. According to him, because of the sanctions of the West, there is “no money, no effort” for this.
