US First Undersecretary of State Wendy Sherman and NATO Deputy Secretary General Mircea Joanne on Thursday discussed the upcoming meeting of the Russia-NATO Council by telephone. This is reported by TASS with reference to the statement by the head of the press service of the State Department, Ned Price, following the talks.
Sherman discussed with Joanne “a general concern about the build-up of Russian forces on the border with Ukraine”, as well as the agenda of the upcoming meeting of the NATO-Russia Council, which will be held in Brussels on January 12.
“The Alliance remains ready for constructive dialogue with Russia, demonstrating solidarity in deterring further aggression,” said Ned Price.
Earlier it was reported that the upcoming meeting was discussed by telephone by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and his Turkish counterpart Mevlut Cavusoglu. The Russian diplomat reiterated Moscow’s position on the need for a serious discussion on security guarantees with the participation of the military “in the interests of achieving concrete results without dragging out the process.”
