State Department denies US involvement in attempts to eliminate Lukashenka

A State Department official said the US was not involved in any conspiracy to remove Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, TASS reports.

According to a spokesman for the US State Department, “any suggestion that the US government was behind this or was involved in the attempted assassination of Lukashenka is absolutely false.”

Speaking about the detention of lawyer Yuri Zenkovich, who has dual citizenship of the United States and Belarus, it was announced that Washington was ready to provide consular assistance to its citizen.

Earlier, the FSB announced the arrest of two people who were planning an attempt on Lukashenka’s life. Yuri Zyankovich and citizen of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Feduta were detained. The special operation was carried out jointly with the KGB of Belarus. President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko confirmed the detention of a group of people who were preparing an attempt on the life of him and his children.
