The State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) of Ukraine has filed a new charge against former President Viktor Yanukovych as the head of an organized criminal group, according to the press service of the Office of the Prosecutor General.
According to the investigation, the criminal group included former officials of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Security Service (SBU) and the armed forces, who are suspected of committing grave and especially grave crimes during mass protests in Kiev in February 2014.
The investigation believes that as a result of such actions, 887 civilians and 132 law enforcement officers were injured.
In addition, Yanukovych was charged with organizing a terrorist act against demonstrators, which resulted in the death of four people.
We will remind, in Ukraine Yanukovych was found guilty of treason and complicity in planning, preparing, unleashing and conducting an aggressive war. He was sentenced in absentia to 13 years in prison. The politician’s lawyers filed several appeals against the court decision, he himself pleads not guilty and calls the verdict illegal.
