In a number of southern Ukrainian cities: Odessa, Nikolaev, Zaporozhye and Dnieper – banners and posters appeared with the words “Yes, we are one people.” The publication suggested that this action is a reference to an article by Russian President Vladimir Putin “On the historical unity of Russians and Ukrainians.”

According to the Russian newspaper, local authorities reacted quickly and began to dismantle the banners.

In July 2021, Putin published an article that caused a wide public outcry. In his work, the President spoke about the harmful influence of the West on Ukraine. Putin believes that the EU and the US have created an “anti-Russia” out of Ukraine, without taking into account the interests of the Ukrainian people. As a result of the coup d’état, pro-Western elites came to power in Kiev. They not only severed historical ties with Russia, but also “squandered the achievements of many generations.” According to the head of the Russian state, in recent years Ukraine has become one of the poorest countries in Europe. He also stressed that Kiev could benefit from cooperation with Russia and continue its dynamic development.
