Smartphones may be turned off in Russia, Kaspersky said

Russians can be left without communication and favorite toys.

Smartphones that are sold in Russia work mainly on two operating systems – iOS and Android. Both of them are very vulnerable in the current conditions and at some point may stop working. So says the chairman of the Association of Developers of Domestic Software Products Natalya Kasperskaya.

We can turn off not only iPhones, we can turn off everything that works on Android. All smartphones in the Russian Federation can hypothetically be turned off. This is one of those threats that we are talking about, this is just cyber warfare.“, the expert said.

According to Kaspersky, this will not lead to a global collapse of mobile networks, that is, the infrastructure will remain intact. Russians will be able to use simpler and more primitive devices, such as push-button phones, as well as communicate via e-mail. That is, we will not be completely without communication, the Zvezda TV channel reports.

The specialist is sure that such a development of events can be avoided. But for this we need to continue to develop import substitution.

Earlier, the media wrote that the first domestic smartphone AYYA is not sold in Russia. So, in the first quarter of this year, only 400 models were sold. The product was positioned as a gadget for confidential communication. At the same time, the price for domestic development was not affordable for the average consumer. AYYA stores sold from 16,000 to 20,000, while it was noted that the discount was 50%.

Earlier, expert Nikita Mokeev warned smartphone users against entering developer mode, changing basic settings, and deleting system files. Such interventions pose a threat to the device, it may start to malfunction or even turn into a “brick”.
