Chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs Leonid Slutsky announced the possible withdrawal of Russia from the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) in the light of the latest anti-Russian events, RIA Novosti reports.
“We can talk about a possible withdrawal from the Council of Europe, from its Parliamentary Assembly. You can only leave the Council of Europe as a whole, ”said the deputy on the air of the YouTube channel“ Soloviev Live ”.
Also, according to Slutsky, the Russian leadership should make a decision regarding the PACE, which would correspond to what the assembly has recently been using “to deliver various kinds of blows to Russia.”
Prior to this, the chairman of the Duma committee also commented on the expulsion of 18 Russian diplomats from the Czech Republic. According to him, the grounds for the expulsion of the diplomatic missions from the country do not stand up to criticism.
Earlier, the head of the Russian delegation to PACE, Pyotr Tolstoy, said that at present Russia has very little ground for cooperation with the Council of Europe.
