Shots fired in Kosovo and the summit of the Non-Aligned Movement in Belgrade

Who is afraid of the restoration of an independent center of power in the Balkans?

Last week in the north of Kosovo – in Northern Mitrovica, Zvecan – shots were heard, flash grenades exploded, and tear gas was spreading. Dozens of people were injured, and a few hours later an elderly woman died, breathing gas. But the “winners” – the special forces of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Kosovo ROSU – left with a “catch”: medicines and food of Serbian origin.

Another invasion by Albanian units into the major Serbian enclaves of Kosovo took place under the guise of fighting smuggling. Pristina demands from Belgrade “reciprocity”, that is, the recognition of the documents of the separatist entity “Republic of Kosovo”. Serbia refuses, and in response Kosovo does not recognize the goods of the “Republic of Serbia”, hindering their legal entry into the province. Local craftsmen deliver what they need by “fox trails”, sharing on the spot with the Kosovo police. While the rest of Kosovo can be supplied from Albania and North Macedonia, for the northern Serbian enclaves, goods from greater Serbia are the only option. And knowing this, Pristina strikes.

Serbian troops were again put on alert and deployed to the administrative borders of the region. And President Aleksandar Vucic, at a meeting with the Serbs of northern Kosovo, promised that if the Albanians again use force against them, they will receive a symmetrical response.

“All this was invented by British diplomats in Pristina, – says the leader of the oldest Serbian radical party, a former prisoner of The Hague, Vojislav Seselj. – I have accurate information confirming this fact. There will be other provocations as well. They are testing Serbia for strength “

This information was confirmed by the President of Serbia: “I have a great relationship with the UK and I will always want that relationship, but I won’t let them fool me! – said Vucic. – We found 58 5.56 NATO cases. Oliver Ivanovich (the leader of the Kosovo Serbs, shot outside his office in 2018 – A.T.) was killed by them. Serbs from Kosovo and Metohija do not have this “… The Serbian president suggested that Pristina would soon carry out another such action, but this time he would send police officers to a settlement with a predominantly Albanian population to deflect suspicions from himself.

The European Union reacted to the incident with apprehension – Brussels is not interested in a new exacerbation in the Balkans. “Violent incidents in northern Kosovo must end immediately– tweeted the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell. – Unilateral and uncoordinated actions that threaten stability are unacceptable. All open issues should be resolved through dialogue with the assistance of the EU. We are in touch with Belgrade and Pristina “

On October 15, at a meeting of the UN Security Council, the head of the UN Interim Administration Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK) Zahir Tanin presented the report of UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, in which he doubted that Pristina had warned the KFOR leadership about her actions. The speaker warned the Kosovo side that its actions could put the edge on the brink of war. In response, an American representative who was present at the meeting struck a blow at the UN mission: “UNMIK has fulfilled its task … We call on the Security Council to gradually scale back the mission so that Kosovo can freely realize its potential and goals.”

Pristina supported the American call. Speaking at the meeting, “President of Kosovo” Vjosa Osmani said: “UNMIK was formed 22 years ago in an extremely difficult environment to create an interim administration. I repeat, the interim administration … We urge you to spend the UNIMK budget on something else, more effective. “… In addition, Osmani called Serbia “the cancer of Europe.” Her speech was parried by the Russian representative Vasily Nebenzya: “The indistinct reaction of Western colleagues who oversee and actually indulge Pristina gives the latter a feeling of permissiveness and inevitably provokes a slide into open confrontation.”

So, we barely managed to ward off the threat of war by settling the situation with Pristina’s ban on Serbian license plates when the ROSU special forces invaded the Serbian enclaves that had not yet cooled down. Why?

On September 11-12, Belgrade hosted a summit dedicated to the 60th anniversary of the Non-Aligned Movement, created in the 50s of the twentieth century by Gamal Abdel Nasser, Jawaharlal Nehru and especially Josip Broz Tito, who made this movement worldwide by inviting the countries of Latin America and Oceania. The first conference of the Non-Aligned Movement was held in 1961 in Belgrade, and since then Yugoslavia has played a leading role in it. Serbia, which became its legal successor, has only observer status there, but the 60th anniversary of the Non-Aligned Movement became a reason for Serbia to remind that it is not going to join any military blocs, including NATO, and adheres to the principles of non-alignment.

Delegations from 105 countries and 9 international organizations arrived at the summit in Belgrade. Serbia signed an agreement on military cooperation with Azerbaijan, chairing the Movement. Most of the participants expressed their support for the territorial integrity of Serbia. For the first time in the history of the organization, Russia received observer status in it, and President V. Putin in his address greeted the delegates of the summit. Serbian member of the Presidium of BiH Milorad Dodik spoke on behalf of the Republika Srpska at the summit, describing how the West turned his country into a de facto colony.

At the same time, the Belgrade Fair complex hosted the Partner-2021 exhibition of arms and military equipment, where Serbia presented both its developments and the products of the partner states of Russia and China. And when reporters asked Vucic how he felt about the fact that the US and the EU criticized him for buying Russian and Chinese weapons, the president replied: “If you think that the US and the EU should decide for us how many weapons we will have, then let’s abolish our state … Serbia will act as a free country!”

Simultaneously with the summit and the exhibition in Serbia, the Russian-Serbian tactical flight exercises BARS-2021 started, and a little later, the Slavic Shield exercises, within the framework of which the Russian Pantsir-S air defense missile systems arrived in Serbia.

Western puppets in the Balkans also responded to this. “Serbia is not harmonized with the European values of democracy and the rule of law. The Vucic regime is in harmony with Milosevic’s policy of regional hegemony. Serbia’s actions are fully coordinated with Russia’s destabilizing actions in the region “– Tweeted the head of the “Kosovo President’s Administration” Blerim Velha.

The West fears the restoration of an independent center of power in the Balkans. And one can safely assume that provocations in Kosovo will continue.
