As specified, the current Minister of Defense Taro Kono may leave his post during the upcoming reshuffle in the government of the new Prime Minister of the country.
Thus, Kono, who previously headed the country's foreign policy department, from the post of defense minister can be transferred to the post of minister of administrative affairs and communications, and Nobuo Kishi, who served as the country's deputy foreign minister, is likely to become the new defense minister.
Earlier it became known that Yoshihide Suga was elected the new head of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party of Japan. As reported, 377 votes were cast for him, while his rivals - ex-Defense Minister Shigeru Ishiba and former Japanese Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida - received 68 and 69 votes.
