Sergey Lavrov and Turkish Foreign Minister discussed the situation in Syria

Foreign Ministers of Russia and Turkey Sergei Lavrov and Mevlut Cavusoglu held telephone talks on February 18, according to the official portal of the Russian Foreign Ministry.

The Foreign Ministry said that the conversation took place in the development of the telephone conversation between Vladimir Putin and the head of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan, which took place earlier on the same day.

“The ministers substantively discussed the situation in Syria with an emphasis on building up joint efforts in the province of Idlib to finally eliminate the terrorist threat,” the Foreign Ministry said.

The heads of departments also confirmed the readiness of Moscow and Ankara to contribute to the peace process in Syria.

Let us remind you that a trilateral meeting of the guarantors of the “Astana process” on Syria was held in Sochi on February 16-17. As a result of the event, Russia, Turkey and Iran made a joint statement in which they criticized the illegal seizure and transfer of oil revenues in northeastern Syria.
