Serbia starts polling stations for constitutional referendum

In Serbia, polling stations have opened for a referendum on constitutional changes in the justice sector to bring the country’s legislation closer to EU standards, the Republican Electoral Commission (RIC) said.

You can cast your vote on Sunday at 8,029 polling stations throughout Serbia, except for Kosovo and Metohija. For citizens of the republic, polling stations are also organized in 10 representative offices abroad, including the country’s embassy in Moscow.

Russian senators as part of the observer mission from the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly take part in monitoring the voting process. The delegation included members of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation Elena Afanasyeva and Sergey Berezkin.

At the end of March last year, the embassies of the United States, France, Germany, Italy and Great Britain officially called on the politicians of the ruling coalition of the self-proclaimed Kosovo and the opposition to unite to take care of the inhabitants of the region and elect a new president.

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, commenting on the situation, said that in this way the authorities of the self-proclaimed Republic of Kosovo violated their own “constitution”.
