Senate confirms Austin’s candidacy for the post of head of the Pentagon

The Senate of the US Congress has approved the candidacy of retired General Lloyd Austin for the post of head of the Pentagon. The vote was broadcast on the website of the upper house.

Austin will be sworn in soon.

Earlier, the House of Representatives allowed Austin to lead the Pentagon. His candidacy was presented by US President Joseph Biden.

Note, 67-year-old Austin will become the first African American to become the US Secretary of Defense. In 2013-2016, he was in charge of the US Central Command.
