The EU said that Schengen needs to be reformed in the near future. The head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, noticed that new flows of migrants were constantly coming, and blamed Belarus for this.
The head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, speaking in the European Parliament, announced the upcoming reform of the Schengen. She is convinced that the current system needs to be changed in order to put a barrier to migrants and respond more adequately to emerging challenges.
At the same time, she blamed Belarus and personally the President of the country Alexander Lukashenko for the influx of new migrants. Ursula von der Leyen noted that this is a response to sanctions against the country’s authorities: allegedly illegal migrants were used as a political weapon.
“And let’s call a spade a spade: this is a hybrid attack aimed at destabilizing Europe. We will never tolerate that,” she said.
Also, the head of the European Commission promised to support the Baltic countries.
Earlier at a CSTO meeting, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov responded to the West to all calls to share the “migration burden.” He stated that it was the actions of the West that provoked this situation, and our country has never supported them and openly condemned them.
He also recalled the situation in Libya. After the NATO countries destroyed the Libyan statehood, flows of migrants poured into Europe. Lavrov said this after a joint meeting of foreign ministers, defense ministers and secretaries of the CSTO Security Councils.
