Saudi Arabia will extend its full border closure due to a new strain of coronavirus, the Saudi SPA news agency reported, citing the kingdom’s Interior Ministry.
The country announced the suspension of international flights and the closure of sea and land border crossings on December 21. The reason was the COVID-19 mutation discovered in several states. Other countries in the region, Oman and Kuwait, have introduced the same measures. At the same time, Oman announced yesterday that it would open its borders on December 29.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Saudi Arabia said that they will study the situation in the next seven days. The ministry added that emergency cases may become an exception to the suspension of international flights. Also, the prohibition does not apply to freight transport. In addition, those who are not subjects of the kingdom will be able to fly away from it.
Since the beginning of the pandemic in Saudi Arabia, more than 362.2 thousand cases of COVID-19 infection have been registered, 6185 people have died, and over 353,000 have recovered.
