Turkey demands from the US to speed up the process of selling F-16 fighters, and also urges Washington not to drag out the deal. This is reported by the Turkish newspaper Sabah.
Ankara wants to buy 40 F-16 fighter jets from Washington and modernize the 80 it has in service. In turn, US President Joe Biden expects to secure congressional approval for the sale of F-16 fighter jets to Turkey.
At the same time, congressmen signed a statement of objection to the sale of aircraft for Turkey. Greece is reportedly blocking the deal. Because of this, Turkish leader Tayyip Erdogan refused to communicate with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and accused him of violating the agreements.
“Turkey does not want this problem to be subjected to a lengthy procedure and a protracted process. For this reason, she is negotiating with the Pentagon and demands that the issue be submitted to the US Congress, ”the newspaper writes.
It is clarified that when using this method, the US Congress “must approve the issue within a certain period of time.”
