Saakashvili transferred to Gldani prison hospital

Ex-President of Georgia Mikhail Saakashvili, who went on a hunger strike in prison, was transferred to the Gldani prison hospital. According to the country’s penitentiary service, this was done in order to avoid deteriorating the health of the arrested politician.

The department promised to gradually provide the public with additional information, RIA Novosti reports.

Earlier, the Georgian media reported that Saakashvili, who has been on a hunger strike since October 1, is being transported from the Rustavi prison to the Gori military hospital.

The ex-president’s mother said that her son was taken out of the prison in a car, and then put into a helicopter, which flew away in an unknown direction.

One of Saakashvili’s lawyers described the situation with the removal of the former president from prison by helicopter as a kidnapping.

On Monday, November 8, the council of doctors decided to recommend to the Ministry of Justice to urgently deliver the politician to the hospital, since some parameters of his tests worsened.
