Russians warned of rising clothing prices due to China

The cost of clothing in Russia in 2022 may grow by 20-40 percent. Alexey Bazhenov, founder of the Beinopen Fashion Industry Development Institute, head of the WearNet working group of the National Technological Initiative (NTI), told RIA Novosti about this.

According to him, the rise in prices is due to the energy crisis in China, which led to stoppages in the production of fabrics. However, he reassured, the rise in prices “will be short-lived” and will last for several months.

Earlier, retailers warned Russians about the fall in prices for clothing and footwear by at least 10 percent. It is assumed that in early 2022, prices for these goods will soar by 15-20 percent. Market representatives explained that the main reasons for the rise in prices for clothing and footwear were increased prices for raw materials and transportation. According to experts, the cost of sea freight from Asia to Europe has increased several times compared to 2020. This is due to the coronavirus pandemic, as well as disruptions in the functioning of Chinese ports.
