During the special operation in Ukraine, the Aerospace Forces of the Russian Federation use modernized Su-25SM3 attack aircraft equipped with the Vitebsk airborne defense system (BKO).
According to available information, this system can protect aircraft from foreign man-portable air defense systems. “Vitebsk” increases the survivability of aircraft and helicopters by a quarter, which perform tasks at low altitudes.
It is indicated that the BKO can change the route of the attack aircraft if it notices danger. This allows pilots to avoid enemy fire zones. Also, the complexes can provide electronic suppression of enemy aircraft.
