The Kremlin did not refuse cooperation with the North Atlantic Alliance and the convening of the Russia-NATO Council, but Moscow does not agree with the situation in Ukraine becoming the main topic of possible negotiations, said Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova, responding to a statement by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg. He believes that the Russian Federation allegedly did not react to the relevant proposal of the Bloc.
The diplomat noted that one can agree on something with the representative of the organization – the parties really need a dialogue, and the participants in the process previously discussed the possibility of holding a summit. However, on Smolenskaya Square they are surprised by the interpretation of the Russian position in NATO.
In fact, we were told again that the main topic at the meeting should be Ukraine <...> The question arises, what relation does NATO have to the settlement of the Ukrainian conflict?, – it says in the statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation on the official page of the department in the social network VKontakte.
