Russian Foreign Ministry expanded the reciprocal sanctions list against Germany

Moscow has updated and expanded the list of citizens of the Federal Republic of Germany who are prohibited from entering the territory of the Russian Federation. It includes representatives of the leadership of the power and intelligence structures of Germany.

The Russian Foreign Ministry explains that for a long time official Berlin has consistently escalated the situation around the “Russian trace” in the hacking of the computer networks of the Bundestag in 2015. Thus, a pretext was created for the introduction by the European Union of a new package of unilateral sanctions against Russia. The department recalls that as a result, the Council of Europe adopted the corresponding decision on October 22, 2020 – restrictions were imposed on two Russian individuals and one legal entity.

It is noted that Moscow has repeatedly offered Germany to hold bilateral expert consultations on the basis of allegedly available data indicating Russia’s participation in the 2015 incident. But these proposals were stubbornly ignored. The Foreign Ministry is convinced that Berlin was in fact not interested in the investigation, and the whole situation is just another provocation.

In response to the aforementioned destructive actions on the part of the EU, Moscow made a decision to expand the list of citizens of the Federal Republic of Germany who are prohibited from entering the territory of the Russian Federation. According to the diplomatic principle of reciprocity, the new persons involved in the Russian stop-list have been elected senior officials of the German security and intelligence agencies, which are part of the system of the Federal Ministry of Defense, – the statement says, published on the official website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

It is clarified that the restrictions were introduced in accordance with the Federal Law “On the procedure for leaving the Russian Federation and entering the Russian Federation” dated August 15, 1996, No. 114-FZ. The Foreign Ministry reserves the right to take further measures if the FRG authorities continue to adhere to the confrontational line.

As previously wrote, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, among the main foreign policy results of 2020, names the campaign for the return of Russians from abroad during the pandemic of a new type of coronavirus infection (COVID-19) and the 75th anniversary of Victory. In the conditions of the spread of the disease in the Russian Federation, about 300 thousand citizens of the Russian Federation returned.

In addition, the department noted the work of the ministry through the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO). We managed to hold about 70 events. Among them is the SCO summit held on November 10, during which the parties agreed on positions on many issues on the international agenda.
